From The Wind examines Scotland’s relationship with renewable energy. Discussing the challenges that face funding and developing renewable energy projects on the islands and mainland of Scotland and hearing from the people of these communities. With a focus on the recent projects on Fair Isle and the Isle of Lewis this anecdotal play features elements of verbatim theatre to educate and highlight our country’s relationship with the environment.

Evaluation centers around a singular condition — one human, average in every way, wakes up strapped to a chair without knowledge of their location or history. Their only company is also their interrogator, an advanced machine with inscrutable origin who wants to know only one thing: are we worth it?

In the face of destruction, the human must defend their species, or decide whether it is worth saving at all.

Through the use of pre–recorded dialogue, Evaluation is a conversation between human and machine, an exploration of the virtues which make us human, and an attempt to reconcile the great suffering we have caused.

The Earth Untold is a storytelling cycle about the ways in which the environment has sheltered us, protected us, informed how we live, sculpted our traditions and festivities, and played a starring role in our folklore and mythology.

Aimed at an audience of all ages, the show takes as its inspiration stories from as familiar a location as the Fringe’s own homeland, Scotland, and as far away as Ancient Greece.

To support its construct, each story will be prompted by a series of objects selected by the audience at the beginning of the show, adding an element of both spontaneity and inclusivity to the performance.

This show explores the story of a girl’s life, her relationship with her environment, and the notion that nature can act as a support system in the same way that family and friends do. A combination of narration through poetry and contemporary dance, this show aims to explore the deep connection we have with the natural world and how our interaction with different environments shapes us and the way we view the world. It offers audience members, a moment to revel in the beauty of dance and poetry while allowing them to reflect upon their own relationship with the places that they call home.

Henry Roberts (LOBES)returns to the BoxedIn stage with his second full–length play, a riveting and challenging look at eco-terrorism and our relationship with the environment. Some of us argue vehemently for more sustainability. But once the sea levels rise and rivers are choked with rubbish, will that be enough? The Swallow and the Nightingale delivers an important message of caution, and (perhaps more importantly) a vital message of hope.

Nights are dark and lonely at the end of the world. Some time in the future, a single figure hunches over the last vestiges of a civilisation long past. Studiedly searching through the static on a hand-cranked radio for signs of a single other living soul left on the earth, they hear nothing. They can’t take being alone anymore — they swallow a bottle of pills, and wait for the ensuing darkness. And just at that moment, their radio crackles to life. ‘Is anybody there?’

This heart-breaking show takes a deeply personal look at an environmental apocolypse, reminding us that it's not just about numbers and statistics. Really, it’s about the people that we’ll miss.
